ISAMA 2011 Announcement

General Information

ISAMA 2011 was held June 13–17, 2011 at the downtown campus of Columbia College in Chicago, IL, 600 South Michigan Ave (between Congress and Harrison). This is an ideal location close to several architectural and artistic attractions, including Millennium Park (with the outdoor concert venue by Frank Gehry and the monumental mirrored sculpture Cloud Gate by Anish Kapoor), as well as the Art Institute of Chicago (with its new Modern Wing by Renzo Piano). Call for Papers

Papers were due April 15, 2011. Please submit papers electronically to The format to be used is the same as for ISAMA 2010 (and the same as for Bridges papers). Samples can be found online in the last proceedings, the Summer 2010 issue of Hyperseeing.


Participants may submit art works for the exhibit. Maximum sizes: 16" x 20" (two-dimensional works), 4' x 4' x 4' (three-dimensional works).


The cost of the excursions, one copy of the proceedings, and lunch on Thursday and Friday will be included in the registration fee of $200. The fee can be paid by check or money order but not by credit card. Payment details can be found on the registration form.


Hotel rates given below are the average price/night for 5 nights June 12-17, as quoted by
  • Club Quarters Central Loop, 111 West Adams, $146. About 7 blocks to conference; close to good restaurants. (This was where people stayed last year.)
  • Travelodge Hotel Downtown, 65 East Harrison, $111.75. About 1 block to conference, but has window air conditioners.
  • Congress Plaza Hotel, 520 South Michigan, $143.10. About 1 block to conference; large old hotel; has had workers picketing for 7 years.
  • Best Western Grant Park, 1100 South Michigan, $156.57. About 5 blocks to conference.


    Excursions will consist of museum visits and architectural bus and boat trips.
